Taper steroids grad: If significantly symptomatic on 5 mgm pred, may not br ready for taper. Talk to you doctor about a disease modifying agent (dmard). Tapering on divided dose (2-3 times daily) works best. Can go from 5 mgm to 4 1/2: 2.5 in the am and 2.0 mgm in evening. The 2.5 mgm dose is half a 5 mg tablet. Sometimes a shift to methyl-prednisone (medrol) works better since its more durable (longer 1/2 llife).

Dose is dependant : Dose of Prednisone is dependant on many factors like condition you are treating, how long the treatment, symptom and disease control, side effects so it is difficult to answer your question without knowing all the facts so check with your doctor, but 5 mgm or 4 mgm dose is not that much different, if 5 makes you feel better, it can be given after talking to your doctor.
