Radioactive vs surge: Short term treatment include antithyroid medication and beat blocker, to control production of thyroid hormone and prevent adverse effect of thyroid on heart and blood pressure. Long term therapy (once hyperthyroidism controlled medicaly) include: 1- radioactive iodine treatment ( most commonly recommended vs2- surgery ( removal of thyroid gland), if above teratment not effective or can't be given.

I131 or pills: Most endocrinologists recommend radioiodine, but some like to use pills. Unfortunately the pills rarely give you a permanent cure. Radioiodine does, but can result in hypothyroidism. Discuss with an endocrinologist.

Options: You have 3 options. The best treatment depends on your clinical pictures and personal situation. Your doctor is the best to help you choose. 1)antithyroid medications (usually not a good long term solution), 2)i-131 ablation (this is preferred) and lastly 3)surgery which is a good option if you are young and have many nodules with symptomatic/compressive issues already. Good luck.
