Thyroid disorders: Goiter simply means your thyroid is larger than normal. It tells you nothing about thyroid function. Most people with goiter have normal thyroid function, some are hypothyroid, some are hyperthyroid. Hyperthyroidism means overactive (high) thyroid levels, and typically requires treatment.
