It is common!: It is common for patients with bronchopneumonia to spit up mucus; it is actually healthy to do that. When you have some bacterial infection of the lungs and airway as it happens with pneumonia, the immune system fights them by creating mucus which can washout the bacteria. It is helpful to cough these secretions up.
