Invasive infection: Mucormycosis is a serious fungal infection and it is commonly seen in the elderly, immunocompromised, or poorly-controlled diabetics. It can commonly involve the sinuses and the brain. This fungus invades bone, cartilage, and blood vessels. It requires surgical debridement, aggressive antifungals, reversal of the immunocompromised state (if possible) or improved control of diabetes.
