Fungus infection: This is a life- threatening fungal disease that begins in sinuses destroying bone and flesh and spreads into brain. Treatment is agressive surgical to remove all the infected tissue. This occurs usually in patients with decreased immune systems i.e., diabetes, chronic steroid use, hiv.

Mucormycosis: Mucormycosis (Zygomycosis) can be a very serious disease caused by inhaled fungal spores. It can infect your nose, sinuses, eyes, , brain, digestive tract and lungs. A severe form is called rhinocerebral mucormycosis in which the brain becomes infected. This is often fatal.
