What is the definition or description of: surgical drainage?

Drain fluid: Sometimes the body develops a collection of fluid. These collections can be a result of surgery, infections, inflammation, etc. Often we can drain these collections with a needle or a drain placed thru the skin (percutaneously) sometimes, however, these collections require opening the area up to drain the fluid collection. This is surgical drainage.
