Blocking an artery: Endovascular embolization is injecting material thru a catheter in an artery to cut off blood supply to an area of the body. This is sometimes done in the abdomen or pelvis when it is desirable to reduce blood supply to a tumor prior to surgical removal of the tumor. The purpose is to reduce bleeding at the time of surgery.
