Possibly: The bump could possibly be a parulis, which is essentially a pimple formed by pus trying to push through the gingiva and exit. Or the bump could be a range of other problems. Either way, it is important to not wait to see a dentist. A new bump is not normal, and it will likely not go away on its own, so there is little point in waiting it out.

Yes: Gum disease is an infection, and sometimes the infection will collect just like a pimple and cause an abscess or bump in the jaw--filled with pus.

Abcess: Gingivitis is the inflammation of gum tissue. It is characterized by red, swollen gums. However, a bump in the gum tissue may well be an abscess, which is an infection, often requiring antibiotics. It could be an infection in the gums (periodontal abscess) or an infection in the nerve tissue of a tooth (endodontic abscess). What you need is a dental exam. And you need it in a hurry.
