Pain: Capsular contraction is the most common cause of pain. Capsule formation is normal however, if advanced (baker iv) can be painful. This can be treated with revisional surgery to excise this capsule and try to improve the aesthetic appearance. Because of your cancer history a thorough exam an the appropriate diagnostic studies by your plastic surgeon is definitely warranted.

Breast Cancer: First you should be seen and examined. The most like cause is scarring or capsular contracture of you breast implant. You should follow up with your plastic surgeon who performed the procedure if possible. If this is not possible have and evaluation by a board certified plastic surgeon familiar with breast reconstruction.

Scarring, Cancer: As dr. Whitfield & others described, scarring around the implant may cause this pain. However, local recurrence of the tumor is another possible cause. I advise you to see your cancer surgeon, as well. Local recurrence is often evident by exam alone. However, an ultrasound or MRI can help supplement the physical exam, as needed.
