Determine the cause: Hemoglobin of 6.1 is very very low. Perhaps she is bleeding from GI tract, vaginally, etc. The cause had to be determined immediately. She needs another unit or two of PRBC transfused to bring hb up. Make sure she is being evaluated.

Depends: Anemia is caused by one of two things: either impaired production, which is a bone marrow problem, or increased loss through either bleed or hemolysis. Since her HGB is so low and without appropriate response to transfusion, her anemia should have at least an initial workup as an inpatient.
