See dentist: This could be anything from a viral illness (if it happened all of a sudden) to a chronic infection, periodonitis. While good oral care with brushing and flossing can prevent periodonitis, once it occurs, you need to get it professionally cleaned as well as possible antibiotics. The longer you wait, the more chance of permanent damage (aka lost teeth or worse infection).

Plaqued teeth?: If there is only plaque and no calculus, exceptional brushing and flossing can clean it off and heal the gums and stop the bleeding. If the plaque has been undisturbed for more than 24 to 48 hours you will have to have a dental professional clean your teeth, which is most likely what is necessary in your case.

Dental cleaning!: Get to a dentist and have your teeth cleaned is the only way to remove all the stain and build-up. By having this done, your gums can heal. In the mean time, use listerine or crest pro-health rinse. Warm salt water or peroxide will help if you have any infections, but nothing you do at home can help as much as a good dental cleaning.

Visit your dentist: In the mean time, try to improve your oral hygiene, also warm salt water rinses with a litle hydrogen peroxide will help to some extend.
