Yes: There are several things that cause wheezing and cough. These can include emphysema, bronchi spasm, asthma, infection, allergies, and others. Many lung cancers have no symptoms when they are diagnosed. You are doing the right thing by checking it out.

Yes: Several other conditions could cause the symptoms you describe. The fact that it has continued without much change for so long actually argues against cancer, but you should definitely get it checked out. If you smoke, you should stop!
