Cough: Cough is so broad... A chest x-ray is good, like looking for tumors & such. But does not show alot.. Cough can be from asthma, or a nighttime cough may be from reflux disease (throat is irritated by stomach contents when you lay down & often no actual "stomach" symptoms). It may be side effect of a medication. Or actual "lung disease" like copd. Just a few poss. ..A year.. Time to see your dr!

Detective work: Cough that is worse at night suggests reflux, but could be asthma, post nasal drip, allergies to things in your home, etc. Sleeping with your head up might relieve reflux, looking for post nasal drip, getting lung function tests will help get to the bottom of it.
