Inflammation: These types of findings on MRI are unfortunately non specific. They may be representative of a number of different things. Given your are, 18, that does narrow the differential diagnosis a little. Things that can cause these types of abnormalities are, multiple sclerosis, acute or chronic demyelinating disorders, viral infections, as well as other inflammatory processes or vasculitis.
