Holter monitor: Your primary doctor can order a holter monitor. If you have insurance, they may have criteria on when and who can order the monitor.

Either: A holter monitor is a long term recording of the heart rhythm, typically 24 hours, but sometimes longer. Often the equipment and preliminary analysis are provided by an independent service that works with your physician. Anyone can order a holter. The interpretation is usually best performed by a cardiologist.

Any doctor: Any doctor can order a holter monitor. It takes special training to interpret the results, however.
