Viral nerve effect: Virus could cause temporary or more longer lasting damage to your taste buds or olfactory senses.

Medication?: Hard to say without knowing more details. A lot of medications can cause taste side effects as can a fungal mouth infection. Sometimes no specific cause can be found. I would stay off any toothpastes (use baking soda) or rinses for a couple of weeks and rule out a fungal infection first.

Medication?: May possibly be a side effect of medication although difficult to say. Are you taking any particular medication while being sick that you don't normally take? Could be a number of reasons. You could always consult your physician.
