A member asked:

Does a woman with very large fibroids always have to get a hysterectomy and will it affect fertility?

Fibroids!: If you are interested in fertility then a fibroid removal may help, but only if you are officially infertile.

Options: Just removing the fibroids is called a myomectomy. If you have large fibroids, you may want to have them removed before pregnancy. If you have a hysterectomy, that means removing your uterus, so you would not be able to carry a child. Fibroids can be removed with a larger abdominal incision or you may be a candidate for a robotic surgery which usually has a quicker recovery.
