Affects immune syste: Many disease entities cause nephrotic syndrome by causing your body's immune system to attack cells within the kidney. Prednisolone, being a strong anti-inflammatory agent, reduces the intensity of this process and helps in controlling the manifestations of nephrotic syndrome. It is not necessarily a "cure" per se.

Unknown: A majority of patients with idiopathic nephrotic syndrome (minimal change ns) responds to steroid treatment, however, its mechanism of action is still elusive. Minimal change ns is not an immune-mediated disease.
