?tarsal tunnel synd: If you have acquired nerve compression at the medial ankle at the flexor retinaculum, you may well be compressing the branches of the posterior tibial nerve. Have a podiatrist evaluate, and possibly do a nerve conduction study.

Dr. Machanic: Gave a great answer. You probably do have some kind of nerve compression. Female ballet dancers, because they stand on pointe, tend to compress the anterior tibial nerve on the top of the foot which can cause your symptoms. As dr. Machanic recommended, go see a podiatrist, preferably one knowledgeable with the horrors of a ballerina's feet.
