Need Xray: You can't diagnose a fracture otherwise unless there is obvious angulation of the bone.There can be tremendous swelling and bruising without a fracture, and minimal physical changes with one. See your doctor.

Boxers fracture?: A boxers fracture is the fifth metacapal neck, the knuckle shortens and vanishes a little behind swelling. A fracture more proximally can also affect the knucle but can more likely end up with rotation of the metacarpal and overlap of the finger, this overlap is something to be treated more agreively if seen, finally a fracture at the base may present as a lump or swollen area closer to the wrist.
