Epidural block: An epidural block is a procedure usually performed by an anesthesiologist in order to block pain during or after surgery. It can also be used for pain control during labor and involves the injection of local anesthetics and other medications via a needle or catheter into the space surrounding but outside of the spinal cord and it membranes. The are done with the patient seated or lying down.
