A member asked:

Which one is more effective: saddle block vs epidural?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends on condition: Epidural blocks are commonly used to treat back pain, to provide pain relief during childbirth. The medications are injected outside the sac containing nerves (thecal sac). Saddle block involves injection of medications into the sac, and is used to selectively numb the areas of skin that would touch a saddle if you were on one. Ask your doctor about the reasons to consider one or the other.
