What is the definition or description of: epidural hematoma?

Blood over brain: The brain is covered by meninges. With trauma, bleeding could occur underneath the coverings, such as a "subdural hematoma". With epidural, we have bleeding above the dura covering. May occur due to skull fracture over the temple which lacerates the middle meningeal artery.

Blood Collection: ....Around the epidural space with many possible causes: trauma, internal bleeding for a wide variety of reasons, post surgical, the list is long. Think about the specific context (reasons for asking) of your question and ask for clarification from your own health care provider. There is a great deal of online information, too.

It is a collection: Of blood in the epidural space. It can cause the serious complication of spinal cord compression and paralysis. For that reason, patients with coagulopathies are not eligible for epidurals. Diagnosis and treatment have to be enacted quickly to prevent permanent damage.
