Is it safe to have a nurse perform a laser procedure?

Sometimes: Just like doctors, there are good and bad nurses. Some nurses have been performing laser procedures for many years and some just learned at a weekend course. In my practice, I have p.A.'s and nurses that i personally trained and supervise to perform certain laser procedures. I review each case individually and approve the settings before each treatment. I am always available on-site to supervise.

Lasers: Regulations differ in the different states as some allow nonphysicians to perform laser procedures. I personally would rather have a physician perform one on me.
