Virus infection: Ulcer on tongue is often caused by a virus infection and should resolve in a few days. Mouth washes containing hydrogen peroxide should help to relieve the symptoms. If the problem continues a visit with your doctor is needed to rule out other causes of tongue swelling such as vitamin deficiencies.

Dental visit: See a dentist immediately to receive a differential diagnosis as the problem could be serious.
