Barotrauma: Talk to an pcp/ent md. Pressure changes cause this. Eating drinking during take off and landing should help this. If they do not help you decongestants taken 30 mins before take off should help. Talk to your pcp/ent md . I answered this question though I am a lung specialist because I have this problem!

Eustachian dysfuncti: There's a tube connecting the ears to the sinuses and with air pressure allergies sinusitis and some other conditions it gets blocked causing pressure pain and blockage feeling. Taking some otc meds like decongestants (pseudoephedrine) and antihistamines as well as nasal rinses help.

Eustachian tube : It sounds like you're describing normal eustachian tube function. Same thing happens when you go up & down a mountain. Basically, the e-tube opens to equalize pressure on both sides of your ear drum. When e-tube collapses or clogs, painful pressure changes occur in middle ear that can only be relieved by opening up said e-tube. Try swallowing, antihistamines & decongestants. Avoid flying w/cold.
