CHEW GUM: Swallow hard. It may benefit you if you start chewing gum and swallowing before the plane starts descending. Thats what i'd suggest you try. It works great for me.

Yawning, swallowing: Try yawning and swallowing. Do not hold your nose and mouth closed and blow as this might send infected material into the inner ear. Stewardesses are expert with assistance for this common problem so ask for help. They are more than happy to do so.
