In someone who is morbidly obese, would it be possible for a hiatal hernia to go away by losing the excess weight?

Hiatal Hernia: Hernia might not improve with weight loss, but acid reflux might improve.

Not fully: A hiatal hernia is when the stomach moves into the chest through the "esophageal hiatus" in the diaphragm. This hole is there natrually to allow the esophagus to get from the mouth to the stomach. The stoamch can stay up there or move with swallowing. Obesity is a cause, but it will not go away without surgery. However losing weight may help the symptoms and surgery may not be needed.

No: Losing the weight will not fix the hernia, but if the hernia is causing symptoms, the symptoms may go away with loss of the weight.
