Hiatal hernia: Yes. Theoretically weight loss decreases intraabdominal fat and reduces pressure and reflux symptoms and may modify the hiatal hernia. Improvement in muscle tone in the abdomen is also a factor.

Maybe: It depends on the current weight and amount of weight loss. Also depends on the size if the hiatal hernia. Large hernias will not improve. With substantial weight loss, small hernias may be prevented from becoming large hernias due to lower intra-abdominal pressure.
