Pilonidal Cyst: This could be what is known as a "pilonidal cyst " which is a small congenital persistence of an embryonal structure that normally completely disappears before birth. The "persistent sinus tract" may exist for decades before it ever causes symptoms, but if it becomes infected like your's you should contact a surgeon who can treat it with antibiotics and possibly incision and drainage/ excision.
