See dentist sooner: Assuming the tooth had no decay before fracture, the fracture could have exposed or irritated the tooth pulp. This can progress into a painful abscess at the root tip of your tooth. You likely need a root canal, or if the root is cracked as well, you need an extraction. Seeing a dentist sooner can prevent an infection from potentially developing.

It won't wait : Once your tooth starts to hurt, there is no going back. A fractured tooth can progress from hurting to catastrophic splitting in just one bite. Ibuprofen for now. This can be a serious medical problem, so use a sick day if you need to.

See dentist sooner.: There really is no way to prevent it from getting worse except to see a dentist as soon as possible. I don't know what the tooth problem is, but if the tooth fractured, it takes treatment to fix. Pain medication or antibiotics won't fix a fracture and won't prevent worsening of the problem. If your dentist cannot see you soon enough, try another dentist!
