A member asked:

Eos and baso % normal (.5% /1.7%b/e%) -absolute #s out of range. if % is in range and wbc is 7.5- absolute # should be in range? why aren't they?

Not necessarily : We worry more if the eosinophil number or basophil number is elevated. An absolute eosinophil count greater than 1500 is a concern if elevated on several occasions. I hope this helps.

I'm not sure: I'm confused by what you're saying. If your WBC count is 7, 500 and you have 0.5% basophils and 1.7% eosinophils, your absolute numbers are normal based on published standards. In my experience, some labs publish reference ranges that are inappropriately narrow, causing people with normal blood counts to believe theirs are in fact abnormal. This appears to be the case here.
