PSA : Psa is found circulating in blood stream as either bound to another protein(s) or unbound. The total psa is the free psa and bound psa. The fraction of free psa versus bound psa can offer diagnostic information to the treating clinician.

Lab Test: Psa is an enzyme in the blood. It stands for "prostate specific antigen." free psa is not bound by proteins in the blood. Total psa accounts for bound and unbound psa in the blood. The ratio of free/total psa helps guide doctors in deciding whether or not to proceed with a biopsy of the prostate.
