Physical discomfort : Is a localized physical suffering associated with gingivitis and/or periodontitis. It is a oral soft tissue sensation induced by a noxious stimulus, received by naked nerve endings, characterized by physical discomfort as pricking, throbbing, or aching. I hope this helps.

Pain around tooth: Gum pain is usually caused by inflammation due to plaque/tartar/calculus (dirt). The dirtier the mouth, the more irritated the gums get and they will swell, putting pressure on teeth, causing pain. Brush with soft toothbrush twice daily, floss once daily, and use an alcohol-free mouthwash twice daily after brushing to keep mouth as healthy and "dirt-free" as possible. Gums hold teeth in place!

Gum pain...: Our “gums” are the tissue that surrounds the necks of the teeth, and cover the jaw bones. When a patient feels pain that seems to be originating from these tissues, it may in fact be a result of problems with the teeth, the underlying supporting tissues, or the lesions of the gums themselves. The source of “gum pain” needs to be evaluated by a dentist.
