Grafting: Grafts are usually performed in the areas where "attached gingiva" is missing. Attached gingiva has a pale color and it is about 5 mm in width. Attached gingiva is essential for the periodontal health. The grafts can be obtained from the roof of the mouth.

Replace lost gum: Replacement of lost gum tissue with gum tissue from another part of your mouth. Different techniques available depending on the area and the reason the gum tissue was lost. Most commonly done to cover sensitive or exposed unattractive roots and defects in the tissue hampering your ability to clean the area, and to help maintain the bone around the tooth, to keep the tooth.

Two types: Two types-- in a "free" graft the surgeon takes tissue from the palate and stitched it pedicle over tooth area where the gum has receded. A pedicle graft uses gum in the area of recession and the surgeon repositions the gum to cover the receded area. The grafts remains partially attached at all times. I hope this helps.
