Lack of cortisol: Addisonian or acute adrenal crisis is a life-threatening condition that occurs when there is not enough cortisol, a hormone produced by the adrenal glands. It can manifest with fatigue, nausea, poor appetite, fever, joint pain, fatigue, coma, or seizure. Addison's disease is usually treated with daily steroid medication.

Addisonian crisis refers to the worst complication of addison's disease: hypotension, low sodium, high potassium and low blood sugar. This is life threatening and requires immediate attention with fluid resuscitation and high dose hydrocortisone.
