A new hip: A total hip replacement is a surgical procedure in which damaged cartilage of the ball and socket (i.e. Arthritis) within the hip joint is replaced by a combination of metal (usually titanium) and plastic (polyethylene). It is a common surgical procedure indicated when the pain from arthritis becomes disabling and fails to respond to conservative care.

Total Hip: A total hip replacement or arthroplasty (tha) is a surgical procedure in which the hip joint, consisting of the femoral heiad (ball of the hip) and the acetabulum (the hip socket), are replaced with prosthetic components or implants. Surgery is typically indicated for severe arthritis of the hip that has failed to respond to conservative treatment.
