Talk: Talk with your surgeon. Ask them to draw exactly what they will be doing. Ask about the recovery process, both while in the hospital and once you leave.

Ask about VATS: The majority of lung resections can now be performed with minimally invasive techniques. Ask your surgeon about thoracoscopy (vats) - it usually leads to less pain and faster recovery.

Important things: Important things to do while in the hospital after surgery: 1. Walk 4 times a day, 2. Sit out of bed and in a chair for all meals, 3. Use the incentive spirometer 10x per hour. 4. Cough and deep breathe.
