Stiff neck: Can be caused by a lot of things from muscle spasm from sleeping on it wrong, to a virus, to an irritated nerve, to arthritis or a disc issue. It would be difficult to know without more detail and an exam. In general try a heating pad and some nsaids and see if they help.

Muscle spasms: A stiff neck is usually the result of muscle spasms. A common cause is awkward sleeping posture at night, but that should resolve in a handful of days at the most. If it lasts a week or more, it could respond to physical therapy/massage/chiropractic, or even a short course of muscle relaxants.
