Bleaching cream : Most bleaching creams contain hydroquinone. This medication shuts down the melanocytes, the cells that make pigment. This product can be irritating, especially in those with sensitive skin. When irritation occurs, darkening can occur, but more typically redness and scaling occurs. Some patients get a parodoxical reaction in which the skin gets darker and not lighter, but this is uncommon.
