Organ failure, death: Sepsis is a dangerous condition that can result in severly low blood pressure, heart failure, pulmonary edema requiring a ventilator, kidney failure, delirium, further infection due to malnutrition and weakened immune state, and ultimately death. With aggressive, early treatment in the hospital, these can be mitigated most of the time.

Severe Illness: Sepsis describes a reaction that the body has to an overwhelming infection. The infection can start anywhere. This occurs for a variety of reasons, but ultimately, the body's response is to release a storm of inflammatory substances that can cause all organ systems to malfunction. If not caught in time. This can lead to organ failure and death.
