Uncertain how common: Information on the approximate percentage of rocky mountain spotted fever patients who get sepsis is hard to find. Nowadays, with antibiotic treatment, the rmsf fatality rate is 4%. A rough guess on the percentage with sepsis could be 20%-25%.

Unknown: There is no epidemiologic data on the rate of sepsis with rmsf; we think about 15-25% of those exposed become ill and of those who become about 0.5% die. It is not clear how many exposed persons become septic.
