Dentist: See a dentist. You can see your primary care doc who might give you some pain meds and/or antibiotics, but definitive treatment is from your dentist. Abscess likely needs drainage and tooth needs x-rays.

See a dentist!: Go see a dentist immediately. The abscess requires antibiotic and the toothache requires treatment as soon as possible before it gets worse.

See your dentist: A toothache is experienced when bacteria have penetrated the enamel layer of the tooth. If the cavity is not restored by a dentist, then the bacteria travel to the pulp (nerve) of the tooth and contaminate it. Although the pulp has immune cells that can kill the bacteria, they eventually win (due to their fast replication) and necrose and abscess the nerve. Your dentist can take care of this.

Dental abscess: It's most commonly caused by severe tooth decay or gum infection. Dental abscess is an acute infection and visit to a dentist is warranted. Good luck.
