Visualizes ureter.: A ureteroscopy is performed in the operating room with general or spinal anesthesia to inspect the ureter for tumor or stones. A small, flexible, fiberoptic ureteroscope is introduced into the bladder, through the ureteral orifice, then up the ureter toward the kidney. A camera captures the image and displays it on a screen for the surgeon.

Scope inside ureter: Ureteroscopy is the use of a scope within the ureter, most often to treat stones or diagnose and/or biopsy tumors. These scopes can be rigid or flexible, fiber-optic or digital. They are often used in conjunction with other specialized equipment such as lasers for breaking up stones, baskets for retrieving stone fragments, and biopsy forceps for obtaining tissue for pathology to evaluate.
