Several steps.: A ureteroscopy is performed in the or with general or spinal anesthesia to inspect the ureter for tumor or stones. For stones, general anesthesia is preferred so that your breath can be held during treatment. You are on your back, in lithotomy position, & a ureteroscope is introduced into the bladder, then up the ureter toward the kidney. Sometimes after the procedure, a ureteral stent is placed.
