Genetic Traits: Heredity refers to characteristics that are passed from one generation to the next via dna, a molecule that encodes genetic information. Some inherited traits carry no clinical consequence (eye color, hair color, etc.). However, many disease states have a genetic basis where one, or both, parents contribute a defective gene that predisposes to a medical condition.
