Heredity : Heredity is the term given to traits that are passed to offspring by genetics. Heritability is the estimate of how much of a populations variation in a quantitative trait is due to genes vs environment. So height is related to both genes and environment. Heritability is say 75 %. So only 25% of a person's height is due to environment. See Wikipedia. Twin studies best way to estimate heritability.
