Many possibilities: Most diseases are too complicated to be explained by simple mendellian genetics. However, family physicians ask about your family history looking for diseases that "run in the family" since various cancers, heart disease, stroke, diabetes, dementia, addiction, etc have some basis in genetics & heredity. We can also test for some chromosomal conditions prior to birth via amniocentesis, etc.
