A member asked:

Why are heredity and family medical history important?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Certain diseases run in families. For example, a family history of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), lupus, scleroderma, thyroid disease, or inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis) increases the risk of person developing RA. Other diseases like malaria (caused by a parasite) have no inheritance pattern.
